All shielding percentages and dB values quoted refer to the shielding fabric, measured as a flat sample in a laboratory in accordance with ASTM D-4935-10 at the stated frequency (1 GHz unless otherwise shown). They are not measurements of the finished garment. When worn, a garment's effective shielding will be lower than the fabric value because of openings (neck, arms, waist, face), seams and fit, and it varies with frequency, washing and wear. Percentages are calculated from power attenuation: 40 dB = 99.99%, 43 dB = 99.995%, 50 dB = 99.999%, 60 dB = 99.9999%.
Shielding fabrics reduce radio-frequency (RF) and microwave radiation. They do not reduce low-frequency magnetic fields, for example from power lines and household appliances.
